Today was a busy spring cleaning day in the garden. Everything is over grown and crowded, huge sage bushes over powering the smaller succulents and giant weeds masquerading as bushes. It was fun and fulfilling to yank and pull aimlessly at the flower bed outside my office, some innocent bystanders got pulled on accident and replanted elsewhere.
I’ve been wanting to bake something all week, but had a hard time finding the time. Ever since I made this amazing blueberry cake, I’ve been in love with the idea of “tea time” or “a sweet treat and a cup of joe in the middle of the day time”. And, scones have been on the brain. So, today, I found a recipe which i had all the ingredients for and that had gotten a good rating and away I went. Threw all the flour and sugar and whatnot together and popped them in the oven. As they were cooking, I took the timer outside with me and finished up a planting the pansies and celosias in the garden.
Fifteen minutes later, Dan and I were enjoying a lovely cup of fresh coffee and a hot chocolate chip scones!
I added a little extra orange juice and a splash of buttermilk to the scone recipe and they came out nice and light and fluffy, but a little unscone-like. But I think I like these better than dense dry scones! Next time, I want to meld the two recipes together, the scone recipe and the blueberry cake recipe, and make blueberry scope with a lemon glaze! YUM!
