My Planting Process

Come and watch while I plant some succulents in one of my new pinch pots!

I set up my “station” on a table on the back porch. The weather was beautiful today! I’ve got my coffee, a ton of empty pinch pots, some dirt and a few plants.

Next, I pick out a plant. This one is a small Haworthia I picked up from the California Cactus Center in Pasadena.

Now, I pick a pot. This one is one of the bigger ones, so there’s room for a few more plants. I check out what I’ve got, which ones are healthy enough to the transplanted. I want the plants look nice together, but I have to keep in mind how each one grows, if it grows up or out or down. I want the pot to look better and better as the succulents thrive.

In the bottom of each pot, I put a handful of loose rocks. This helps with the drainage and keeps everyone healthy and happy.

Now I arrange the plants how I think they’ll look nice. I use a spoon to get the dirt into hard to reach places.

With this one, once I got them all in, I decided I needed a bit of color. I found a little plant with some red on it, and threw it into the mix.

This one is done and ready to go home with someone!
