Friday, August 24th – Family Dinner – 5pm – Rim Rock Ranch
Friday night we’re gonna have a family dinner at the Rim Rock Ranch. I haven’t got this planned out all the way, so please ask me about the specifics.

Saturday, August 25th – Reception – 5pm – Pappy and Harriet’s
The reception is gonna be at one of our favorite places, Pappy and Harriets, a down home restaurant in the heart of Pioneertown, a fake western town built to film old western films. The restaurant and hotel were built to feed and house the stars and crew.

Keep in mind, it’s gonna be hot. So, be prepared. Please wear something that you will be comfortable in! The reception is going to be outside. The floor is dirt, the tables are picnic and the food is buffet. It’s gonna be a grand ol’ time!! Casual dress attire would be lovely. Let me know if you want more specific details and I’ll try to fill in the gaps.

There will be a vegetarian option (cause i’m veggie) and a meat option (cause dan loves meat). Please let me know if you have any special dietary needs.

Sunday, August 24th – Brunch??
I haven’t planned anything for this day yet. Maybe we’ll all be hung over. I think this day will just be a play it by ear day!

Where to Stay
Travellodge Inn
This is a good option for families (pool) and people who are staying only one night, the Travellodge Inn in Yucca Valley. There’s a really nice, big pool and hot tub and a “garden” area where the rooms open to a nice grassy area with tables and chairs. There’s a bunch of rooms that open up right to the pool! In mid-May, I am going to block off a bunch of rooms for wedding guests at a discounted price. When you call (760-3650-3311) and book your room, mention the Powell/Horne wedding.

The Pioneertown Motel
We’ve reserved all the rooms (about 19) at The Pioneertown Motel for family and maybe a few friends, please check with us before reserving your room. What we were thinking is that half the hotel can for the party people and the back half, rooms eleven through twenty, can be for people who want a little more quiet. It’s a two night minimum, so it’s great for people staying Friday and Saturday night.

RimRock Ranch
We also are renting out  the RimRock Ranch! Which is up the road from Pioneertown and where the wedding party and parents will stay.

There’s also Best Western. It’s in Yucca Valley, a bit farther down the road then TravelLodge. But the rooms are nice and there’s a pool. Let me know if you’re interested in staying there and I can block off some rooms there as well and get a discounted price.

I would love if you kept me up to date with all your plans. It would make planning the weekend a bit easier to know who will be around for Friday night and Saturday activities.

Group Activities / Volunteers Needed
We want you to be a part of our special weekend! There are a few things we’re going to need some help Friday night and Saturday morning! Below is a list of stuff. Please let me know if you wanna help with any of them! There’s just a few things so far, but I’m sure the list will grow.

Flower Arranging
I’m going to go to the Flower District in Downtown LA Friday morning, before heading up to the desert, and pick up all the flowers. So, I’ll need help Friday night with the arrangements! How fun! I’m envisioning a gaggle of women (and maybe a few men, too) sitting around with tons of flowers flying and wine flowing and tongues waging.

Reception Decorations
We need people to help decorate the reception area on Saturday morning. Please contact me to discuss.

Amateur Photographers
We are going to hire a photographer, but the more photos the better! So, shoot away and please send us your photos after the wedding. We’ll have a website where everyone can go and upload their photos and also download any photos they’d like too!

Pre-reception Drinks
I would love a volunteer to be in charge of refreshments at the reception venue for the time right before the reception starts.

Entertainment
It’s gonna be “live band karaoke”! If you wanna sing a particular song, let us know and the band will learn the tune.

Clean Up
This is an important one! We need at least three or four volunteers to help with post-reception clean up. You know, taking down the decorations, gathering up the left over flowers, packing up anything and everything.

Fun Stuff  To Do

There is TONS of stuff to do in and around Pioneertown. Saturday afternoons, I’ve heard that there’s a gun show on Mane Street in Pioneertown. Joshua Tree National Park is close by and amazing! There’s tons of hiking inside the park. Right outside the park, there’s a nice little museum with a little botanical garden. Also close, is a town calledDesert Hot Springs. There are tons of hot springs that are like public pools, you can pay to play for the day. Our favorite is called Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel. Huell Houser went there!
